Veteran Bollywood actor Nana Patekar passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday morning after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Dona Paula, Goa. He was declared dead at Manipal Hospital at around 5:20 a.m. despite doctors’ efforts to revive him for nearly 45 minutes.
According to Dr. Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital, Patekar had messaged a friend around 2:30 a.m. saying he was unwell. His friend later reached the residence, where Patekar was found in distress and gradually became unconscious. Medical teams performed CPR and rushed him to hospital, but he could not be revived. A post-mortem examination has been ordered.
Nana Patekar was also known for his affection for Punjabis and Punjab. Around 17 years ago, while shooting in Punjab, he learned Punjabi and had spoken about his love for the language. During the shooting of Welcome in Chandigarh, he reportedly donated ₹3 lakh to help pay for the bypass surgery of an assistant director’s farmer father.
In January 2018, Patekar visited Amritsar with his wife and paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib. After the visit, he expressed gratitude for getting the opportunity to bow at the Golden Temple during his lifetime.
