Nearly a year after taking action against over 25 streaming platforms, the Government of India has once again cracked down on digital content by banning five additional OTT services for allegedly carrying obscene material.
The newly restricted platforms - MoodXVIP, Koyal Playpro, Digi Movieplex, Feel, and Jugnu — were blocked under the Information Technology Act and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Officials said the decision followed consultations with key ministries and industry bodies to assess concerns around harmful online content.
The government clarified that the goal is not to curb artistic freedom but to ensure platforms follow legal standards. Failure to comply can result in loss of legal protection under Section 79 of the IT Act and possible prosecution.
This move echoes a similar operation in July 2025, when websites and apps linked to 25 OTT platforms — including ALTT, ULLU, and Big Shots App — were blocked over allegations of vulgar and pornographic content.
