The Hindi film Ghooskhor Pandat landed in controversy after its title was accused of being casteist, drawing sharp criticism from political leaders and social media users. Following the uproar, director Neeraj Pandey and lead actor Manoj Bajpayee issued a clarification, stating that there was no intention to offend and confirming that all promotional material for the film had been withdrawn.
The film, which features Bajpayee as a corrupt police officer, was officially announced earlier this week at a Netflix event. Soon after the teaser was released, online criticism erupted, with many arguing that the title painted a particular community in a negative light.
Citing concerns over offensive content, the BJP claimed the government had instructed Netflix to remove the film’s promotional assets.
Manoj Bajpayee also reacted on X, saying he respected the concerns raised by the public and believed it was important to pause and listen when creative work causes unintended hurt.
