Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh is drawing criticism for casting Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. Amid heightened cross-border tensions, the horror-comedy will not see a theatrical release in India and is set to screen exclusively overseas on Friday, June 27.
The move comes in the wake of recent geopolitical unrest following the deadly April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and India’s retaliatory Operation Sindoor, which involved missile strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.
Social media users have slammed Dosanjh for collaborating with a Pakistani actor at a time of national sensitivity. The trailer for Sardaar Ji 3, which Dosanjh shared on Instagram Sunday night, is currently unavailable for viewing on YouTube India. Visitors attempting to access the video are met with the message: “The uploader has not made this video available in your country.”
“Sardaar Ji 3 Releasing 27th June OVERSEAS Only FADH LAO BHOOND DIAN LATTAN,” Dosanjh wrote in his Instagram caption, seemingly hinting at the decision to avoid a domestic release.
The controversy marks a rare backlash for Diljit Dosanjh, who has otherwise enjoyed widespread acclaim for his recent international performances and critically praised role in Amar Singh Chamkila.
