Due to the growing tensions between the two countries, the producers of Sardaarji 3 opted to skip an Indian theatrical release and are now targeting international markets instead. In a recent conversation with BBC Asian Network, Diljit Dosanjh addressed the controversy and explained the reasons behind the decision.
“When we made this movie, things were normal,” Diljit shared. “We completed shooting back in February when the situation between India and Pakistan wasn’t as tense. What happened afterward was beyond our control. So the producers had to make a tough call. Since releasing the film in India wasn’t possible anymore, they decided to take it global. A lot of money has gone into this project, and no one foresaw this political turn of events.”
He continued, “Even when I signed the film, the atmosphere was completely different. Now that everything has changed, we have to adapt. I stand by the producers and their decision to release the film internationally.”
Speaking about his experience working with Hania Aamir, Diljit praised her professionalism: “She’s incredibly dedicated. I admire her commitment and also her ability to maintain personal boundaries. I value privacy myself, so our interactions were always respectful and focused.”
Sardaarji 3 features a strong ensemble including Neeru Bajwa, Manav Vij, Gulshan Grover, Jasmin Bajwa, and Sapna Pabbi. The film’s plot follows Diljit’s character, a ghost hunter, who teams up with Hania’s character to tackle a supernatural case in a haunted UK mansion. The movie is set for an overseas release on June 27.
