Punjabi actor Tarsem Jassar's upcoming film Dastaar has not yet received certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), just days before its scheduled theatrical release on July 17.
According to the film's producers, the movie has already undergone its screening before the CBFC. However, the certification has not been issued, leaving uncertainty over whether the film will be released as planned. Dastaar explores themes related to the Sikh turban, Sikh history and identity.
The film stars Tarsem Jassar and Yograj Singh. It is directed by Amar Hundal and produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu.
The delay comes as several Punjabi films and productions centred on Sikh themes have faced certification or release-related scrutiny in previous years. Those films include Hawayein, Shaheed-e-Mohabbat (later released as Paani), Udta Punjab and Chardiklaa. More recently, the film Satluj has also been the subject of public discussion over its certification status.
