The offbeat Manipuri coming-of-age film Boong, backed by Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment, emerged victorious at the BAFTA Awards in London, taking home the honour for Best Children’s & Family Film. First-time filmmaker Lakshmipriya Devi accepted the award with heartfelt words, calling for peace in Manipur and expressing hope that displaced children rediscover their happiness and dreams.
Joined on stage by producers Farhan Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, and assistant director Rahul Sharda, she described the win as an unexpected summit in their journey and thanked BAFTA for offering a platform to share a message of forgiveness and unity.
Starring Gugun Kipgen and Bala Hijam, the film outshone global contenders including Lilo and Stitch, Arco, and Zootropolis 2.
