Arijit Singh, widely regarded as one of the most cherished voices in Indian music, has taken fans by surprise with an unexpected announcement: he is stepping away from playback singing. The singer shared this update on Instagram, instantly stirring emotions among listeners who have grown up with his songs and associate his voice with an entire era of Bollywood music.
In his heartfelt Instagram post, Arijit expressed sincere gratitude to his audience for the constant love and support he has received throughout his journey. He revealed that he will no longer be accepting new projects as a playback singer.
“Hello, and a very Happy New Year to everyone. I want to thank you all for the immense love you’ve given me over the years as listeners,” he wrote.
“I’m happy to share that I won’t be taking on any new assignments as a playback vocalist from this point onward.”
That said, the singer was quick to reassure fans that this is not a farewell to music itself.
Arijit Singh has not retired from his musical life. His decision stems from a desire for personal evolution and creative independence, not burnout or controversy. He shared that he wants to spend time learning, experimenting, and engaging with music on a more personal level—creating as a “small little artist,” free from the expectations and pressures that come with commercial playback singing.
