Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar has taken a major step to improve stunt safety in the Indian film industry by insuring the lives of approximately 650 stunt performers. This decision comes in the wake of the tragic death of veteran stuntman SM Raju, who lost his life during a high-risk stunt on the set of director Pa Ranjith’s upcoming Tamil film Vettuvam, starring Arya.
Responding to this growing concern, Akshay Kumar has introduced an insurance scheme that offers health and accident coverage to around 650–700 stunt performers. The policy includes cashless medical treatment worth ₹5 to ₹5.5 lakh, covering injuries both on and off set. Akshay Kumar’s move has been widely appreciated in the film community, highlighting the urgent need for institutional support and safety measures for action crew members across the country.
