Violators of water restrictions in Vancouver face hefty fines

BY Connect News, Sep 7, 2023 7:05 PM - REPORT AN ERROR

Violators can be fined up to $500

Vancouver bylaw officers are issuing fines to people who violate water restrictions.

As of September 3, officials have issued 152 tickets, according to the city.

In fact, from August 4, the Vancouver region entered stage-2 of water restrictions, in which, instructions were given that residents would not be able to water the grass in their yards as the region had imposed certain restrictions on the use of water for treating drinking water.

Violators can be fined up to $500.

Despite this, some people have violated the water restrictions.

In total, from May 1 to September 3, 496 tickets were issued in addition to 732 warnings, according to the city.

Of these warnings, 527 were for Stage-1 violations that occurred before August 4, while 205 were for Stage-2 violations that were issued after August 4.

Emergency Management Minister Bowinn Ma says British Columbia is currently experiencing a drought, which is why the decision was made.

It may be mentioned that under Stage-2, sprinklers that sprinkle water for residents to water their lawns will be able to be used in homes from 5 am to 9 am and in non-residential properties from 4 am to 9 am.
