Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has firmly called for a criminal case to be filed against actress and BJP parliamentarian Kangana Ranaut. He contends that her unreleased film Emergency has deeply offended the religious sentiments of the Sikh community.

Sukhbir Badal has issued a statement alleging that Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut is intentionally provoking sentiments against the patriotic Sikh community to undermine communal harmony. Alongside Sukhbir Badal, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal has expressed similar concerns, asserting that this is a deliberate effort to tarnish the reputation of the brave and patriotic Sikhs who played a crucial role in India's struggle for independence and have contributed significantly to the nation’s food security.

Emergency, directed by Kangana Ranaut, who portrays former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was originally slated for release between October and November 2023. However, it was rescheduled to June 14, 2024, before being postponed again due to the Lok Sabha elections. The film is now set to premiere on September 6.

The trailer features an actor depicting the slain Sikh revolutionary leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale.
