Youth Suspect Arrested, Youth Victim Hospitalized
On Thursday, June 5, 2025, Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers arrested a male 15-year-old suspect after a 14-year-old male victim was stabbed.
Just after 3:00 pm yesterday, SPS officers were called to the area of 132 Street and 70B Avenue for a reported stabbing. A victim was quickly located in the area with a significant stab wound. He was assisted by SPS, Surrey Fire and BC Ambulance personnel prior to being transported to hospital where he continues to receive treatment and is listed as being in stable condition.
Surrey Police Service officers then began searching for the suspect involved

Liberals table bill to speed up approvals for major 'national interest' projects
Prime Minister Mark Carney's government is granting itself new powers to quickly push ahead major projects the federal cabinet deems to be in the national interest.
Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc tabled legislation in the House of Commons today which would give Ottawa the authority to draw up a list of large projects it wants to prioritize and expedite their federal approval.

SSP who summoned Bharat Bhushan Ashu suspended
Amidst the upcoming by-election for the Ludhiana West assembly seat in Punjab, the SSP Vigilance has sent a summons to Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan, after which the state's Aam Aadmi Party government suspended SSP Vigilance Jagatpreet Singh.

Canada's unemployment rate hits nine-year high
Canada's unemployment rate has hit its highest level in nearly nine years, with 1.6 million people unemployed in the country. Statistics Canada said in a report released today that the unemployment rate in May was 7 per cent, the third consecutive monthly increase in unemployment.
The total number of unemployed people last month was about 14 per cent higher than the same month a year ago, the statistics department said. This is mainly due to the fact that employment growth has remained almost stable amid a growing population, with no large-scale layoffs.
